Syllabus
Open a section to see what you learn. This lash lift and tint training is taught without a product brand, so you can use suitable products of your own.
Before you start
You can join from age 16. No previous lash, brow or beauty experience is needed. You should be in good general health and comfortable working close to a client’s eyes for a full treatment.
- Age 16 or over
- No previous experience required
- Good general health
- A patch test at least 24 hours before every treatment, including training models, and again when the products change
Professional standards
How you work matters as much as the lift. This unit covers the professional duties you take on once you treat clients in Ireland.
- Irish law that applies in a treatment room, including health and safety and fair dealing with clients
- GDPR: what you may write down, who can see it, and how long you keep it
- Record keeping for consultation, consent, patch test, the treatment itself and aftercare
- You need your own insurance before you treat clients
Health, safety and hygiene
- COSHH: reading labels and safety information for lifting solution, fixing solution, tint and developer, then storing and disposing of them safely
- A risk assessment for an eye treatment: chemicals close to the eye, allergy, cross-infection and spills
- PPE, a clean uniform, hair tied back, and short clean nails
- Infection prevention: hand washing, single-use items, and cleaning tools between clients
- Station set-up: couch, light, trolley, waste, and a clear way to rinse the eye if you need to
Lash and eye anatomy and how a lift works
You learn the eye area you must protect, then why a lift changes the lash and how long that change lasts.
- Eyelid, waterline and the skin under the eye, and why product must stay on the lash
- The growth cycle: anagen (growing), catagen (changing) and telogen (resting). A lift grows out as the lash is shed
- Lift chemistry in plain language: lifting solution softens the bonds so the lash can take a new curve; fixing solution resets them. You use the processing time printed on the product in front of you
- Lash assessment: length, thickness, direction, sparse areas and lashes that point down
- Shield and rod selection. A shield that is too small kinks the lash. One that is too large gives a weak lift. You match it to the lash and the curve the client wants
Contraindications and contra-actions
- Patch test at least 24 hours before every treatment, read and written into the record
- When to refer or refuse: eye infection or inflammation, recent eye surgery, broken skin around the eye, a known allergy to the products, or anything outside your training
- Recent henna or tint. Leftover colour can affect a new tint. You check what was used and when, and you delay if it is not safe to tint
- Contra-actions during or after treatment: redness, watering, stinging or a reaction
- If a reaction happens: stop, remove the product the way you were taught, rinse only if it is safe, record what you saw, and tell the client when to seek medical advice. You do not finish the treatment on a reacting eye
Consultation techniques and client care
- A consultation covering history, the look they want, and an honest lash assessment
- Written consent before you start
- Managing expectations: a lift works with the natural lash. It does not add lashes or length. Results depend on the lash and on aftercare
- Complaints: listen, write down what was said, and do not promise a result you cannot give. Know when to pause and speak to your tutor or your insurer
Products, tools and equipment
This course is not tied to a product brand. You may train and work with your own products, as long as they are suitable for a lash lift and tint and you follow that product’s instructions.
- Lifting solution and fixing solution
- Adhesive or balm to hold the shield and the lashes
- Shields or rods in a range of sizes
- Lash tint and a developer made for the eye area
- Nourishing serum for the end of the treatment and for home care
- Spoolies, micro-brushes, under-eye pads, a timer, a mirror, and a cleanser to remove make-up first
The procedure step by step
Lash lift
- Re-check the patch test, consultation and consent.
- Cleanse the eye area and comb the lashes.
- Choose the shield and place it so it cannot slip.
- Set the lashes onto the shield from the inner corner outward, with none crossed.
- Apply lifting solution to the lashes only. Time it. Use the time for the product you are using.
- Remove the lifting solution completely.
- Apply fixing solution, time it, and remove it completely.
- Check the curve, then nourish the lashes.
Lash tint
- Tint only when the client wants colour and the patch test covers the tint.
- Mix tint and developer to the product instructions. Do not strengthen the mix.
- Apply it to the lashes, off the skin and out of the eye.
- Process for that product’s time, then remove every trace.
- Comb through, check both eyes match, and show the client.
Timing control and troubleshooting
- Over-processing: lashes look frayed, dry or curled too far. You cannot undo a finished over-process. You learn to stop on time and how to care for the lash afterwards
- Under-processing: the lift drops. You learn when a short extra process is reasonable and when it is safer to leave the lash
- Uneven lift: usually the shields or the placement. Both shields should sit at the same height, with the lashes fully on them
- Kinks: the shield was too small, or lashes were stuck at a sharp angle. Release and replace them before any solution goes on
- Weak tint: too little product, too short a time, or a coating left on the lash. Check the colour while the client is still with you
Aftercare and retail
- Keep the lashes dry, and avoid make-up, steam and oil-based products for 24–48 hours
- No rubbing and no lash curler. A clean pillowcase helps
- Results typically last 6–8 weeks, then grow out
- How to recommend aftercare and a nourishing serum. Clients may use what you retail or products of their own. You do not tie them to one brand
Business awareness
- Pricing a lash lift and tint so your time, products and the 6–8 week return visit still make sense
- Rebooking before the client leaves
- Building a client base from models, referrals and a simple follow-up
Marketing and social media
- How to describe the treatment honestly, including how long it lasts and what it cannot do
- Before and after posts that show the same person in the same light
- Claims to avoid: adding length, a guaranteed curl, or a result that your photo does not show
Taking great photos of your work
- Lighting: soft and even, with no hard shadow across one eye
- Angles: straight-on so both eyes and brows are in frame, plus a slight side angle when it shows the lift
- Consent: a separate yes before you use a client’s photo on social media or in a portfolio. Consent to the treatment is not consent to publish the photo
